Take some basic measurements to start the planning process

1. DECKS
  • Take a picture of your home where deck is to be built
  • Sketch a basic footprint for the planned deck
  • Make note of any obvious constraints such as elevation, door locations, sidewalks or stairs
2. FENCING
  • Determine basic length and layout
  • Note typical post spacing and variations
  • Note any obvious changes in grade
  • Account for gates and access requirements
3. ROOFING
  • Measure length, width and roof overhang of building
  • Determine pitch or gable height
  • Measure length of ridges, starter, valleys and gables
4. SIDING
  • Measure length, width and height of building to be sided
  • Note door and window sizes in consideration for trim requirements
5. SAUNAS
  • Determine available space (need approximately 6’x7’ of floor space and a 7’ ceiling)
  • Verify most likely number of occupants (typical)
